The number of quitters is outrageous and something needs to be done

Post by RazorOz »

The number of players who tilt quit at the end of the games is beyond tedious, and needs to be dealt with better. Nearly every other game at the minute someone disappears at the end of the race, often after you've already completed the race. Heat is by far the worst game I've ever seen on BGA on this, likely in part because it's the sort of game you can know you have no chance of winning before the end of the race.

The system currently does not handle this well at all. Firstly, let's be clear you basically can't avoid these people, I have my reputation set to very restrictive for races, I am red thumbing/blocking every player I see do this, and yet there is still an endless supply of people doing this. I realise the server isn't going to support anything like bans for these players, but something needs to be done to stop these players completely ruining the game for everyone else.

The most obvious solution is so if you quit a race, you are last, but the rest of the race goes on and counts as 100% ELO. The 90% ELO system simply doesn't work for a game like Heat, if your ranking is half decent you basically can't gain in these races as you lose points for all the "ties" which the system then neutralises to zero, even though in many cases you'd literally already crossed the line in 1st place when the player at the back "disappears" and decides not to complete the race.

Something needs to be done anyway, as I know I'm not alone, as every game this happens, many of the other players complain about how common it is, and it's surely ruining the experience for the majority of players who just want to play a good, honest game.

For certain games, the easiest way to avoid quitters is to set a 85%+ karma restriction.
Don't know if it will work here.

And you can always put a red thumb

It's 75% max right? I already have that on. And I've red thumbed dozens of quitters, there is an endless supply though.

Heat has by far the biggest % of quitters I've ever seen in any game on BGA, and it's not even close. If you avoid bad reputation players at most games someone quitting is rare, in Heat it's common even in games with all players with good reputation.

You can set the karma minimum to 85% using the old lobby, not the new one.

But a better solution might be to create a HEAT group to which you only invite non-quitters, and restrict all the games you create to this group. You can add me if you like: I like HEAT and never quit anything.

Are you playing simple games or Arena ? Never had this issue on Arena.

It has an option to quit once someone has finished, which many people use - don't think (although I could be wrong!) that it neutralises the results though.

Sorry, I don't understand the question. What is the difference between the two?

Plenty of people do use this, but plenty don't. Plenty just quit or timeout when they know they can't win at the end.

I also think this option should be available before the end of the race, because one issue is you can know you've lost before someone has actually crossed the finishing line.

Simple games (where you see the ELO ranking) is "for anyone" so you can face all kinds of players. Arena mode is for competitors, they are maybe less likely to abandon a game, as they will not be beginners.

Yeah, an because you need at least 100 ELO to enter the arena, you more or less need to have won 2/3 games before you can which removes most of the quitters already.

But you cannot choose the game options (except timing) in arena mode...

You can also set an elo restriction in normal mode, you don't need arena for that.
