Sending messages to all players of a game

Post by katmk »

I've noticed that with some games, some people are able to broadcast messages to the whole of the game's players. For example, if I go to the 'Streets players' group, then I can see that I am allowed to post to that wall. But many groups do not provide that option (at least to me!) Are there any specific reasons for why you may or may not post for a game?

I think it is just game specific: the admin(s) of the group can decide what they want players to be able to do. Probably the number of players in the group is an important factor.
I have seen for example a game in alpha with few testers where the developer would let players post so that they can organize game sessions to test the game in real-time mode, but then changing that when the game goes beta because then more people would play the game and that would be too many messages if any player could post.

I think Great Western Trail was one of the first times this became a major issue. There were THOUSANDS of players in the group, and people were constantly using the chat. Eventually an admin had to limit it because it was so distracting for everyone to see chat popups.

Ah, thanks both. That's helpful to know.
