Where to place train stations?

Where to place train stations?

If I want to use a train station to claim a section someone has already used....
Do I place the station where my trains meet their trains?
Or do I place it on the other end of their trains, on the city I want to get to?
I think it is the latter but want to make sure.

You can place your station in one of the 2 cities of the road, already built, wanted. ;)
