data for analytics

Post by MogamboTau »

Does BGA make any type of data available so that someone could run analytics on top of it? Would be fun to see most games played, how it has changed over time, emerging games, etc.

You can see many things from your profile. (Actually everyone on BGA does.) https://boardgamearena.com/gamestats?player=94315552
You can filter for game, opponent, dates.

Thank you, helpful to know it's easy to see my personal stats

However, I was referring to BGA wide data (or some parts of it, if not all can be shared) that can be analyzed for some interesting stats about the ENTIRE BGA community - which games are most played (cut it by country, max or avg. player size), which games took the longest, how it has changed over time etc. If no data, even visualizations will be good e.g. ArkNova is most played in 2024, Ticket To Ride in 2023 etc.

That was not allowed.
But you could contact the support (bottom of the page normally) to ask.

Yeah, it's generally not wanted that users have access to this data. (I guess it's mostly to protect this information from competitors. To have detailed information on which types of games are played, when, by whom, this is valuable information you do not give out for free as a business.)

I think you have a little bit more stats available if you are a BGA developer. Here are 2 examples.

Regarding games by popularity, on the games page, I think games are always sorted by popularity. (It has been like this in the past.) So, currently, ArkNova should be the most popular one, followed by Wingspan, and so forth. However, it only ever provides the current situation.

I also put a message about staistics.

On each game, statistics are defined by the developer.
Stats for the entire table or specific to each player.

We can see those defined in unlicensed games, because the code is public (on Github).
For example, coinche: number of rounds played, number of successful bets, number of doubles...

I don't know how to see these statistics for our favorite games.
