Post by Schn1tz3l »

I an cannot play a secondimal although all conditions are met. The screenshot should explain it completely

Why is this not possible?

I can't see any free enclosure in your zoo for available animals.

As far as I can see, you only have 2 1 space enclosures available, and no animal fits that 1 space requirement.

Under the kiosk is the bonus of the map so these 1 enclosures are built to the bonus of the map therefore the two 1 enclosures should have 3 free spaces.

Does it say somewhere in the rules that enclosures on the water don't count for the bonus or is it just a bug? :)

not sure I understand what you are referring to.

You have to build enclosures first so you can place animals into them. For the standard enclosures, once they are full you cannot add to them anymore. (exception: flock ability).

You have to put an animal with a 1-hex requirement into a free 1 enclosure. You have no 1 animals. That's the only kind of animal you would be able to place in this position, during an animals action.

The player seemed to be saying that he had a '1' space enclosure adjacent to the bonus thing that allows enclosures adjacent to it +2 spaces.

As soon as you covered it with your kiosk, that special spot no longer exists, so you no longer get the +2 bonuses.

Ah thanks for the answer.
I didn't realise that the bonus would no longer count if I built over the field.
Is that explicitly stated somewhere in the rules?

I don't think this very specific case is in the rules.

I think the glossary describes examples of covering rocks and water and them no longer counting as rocks or water because they are covered.

I think the extension of that rule to map special abilities was made officially clear in a boardgamegeek forum response from an employee of the publisher.

But it follows a general "rule of thumb" that's explains a lot of Ark Nova minutiae... The map remembers nothing.
The map doesn't know what's in an enclosure. The map doesn't know what's under something. Etc.
The game never expected you to remember something about map placement or to lift up a tile to look under it.
