Actions greyed out

I'm new to Ark Nova and I'm in the middle of my first turn based game.

On my last turn the Association and Animals actioned were greyed out, which I found quite irritating because I was planning to play Association. I decided to play Build instead just to complete my turn.

Is there a legitimate reason why I couldn't play Animals or Association?

For Animals, I assume you did not have enough money for any animal card in your hand, but I don't know your cards to explain exactly.

For Association, you do not have any workers available, since you already used your worker.

I assume there is a way to get more than 1 worker?

Indeed, there are some ways:

* Removing a specific conservation project cube on the left of your map unlocks a worker.

* Gaining your third partner zoo unlocks a worker.

* Gaining enough reputation unlocks a worker.

* The reward for reaching 2 conservation points lets you unlock a worker, OR upgrade a card, but not both.

* There are some rare card(s) which can unlock a worker.

Four cards, all of them with special requirements. Three animals: Grizzly Bear (requires size 5 building, two predator icons and upgraded Animals card), Eurasian Brown Bear (requires size 5 building next to water, a bear icon and upgraded Animals card), and New Zealand Fur Seal (requires size 5 building next to water and rock and upgraded Animals card). One sponsor: Talented Communicator (requires upgraded Sponsors card).
