Single player is hard?

Post by alicebob »

Hi,

just tried a few solo runs, which was fun to try to find synergies. However, reaching the solo goal (maximizing all stats) seems absolutely impossible in 14 generations. Just want to know if I'm really that bad or do I miss something obvious?

its not easy but you can definitely win, but on ssimeonoff.github.io/solo are 30000 solo games submitted win% around 77
for base game only: 83% and 11k games

looked at last game
if you dont have energy maybe dont buy oxygen bumper

gen 3 buy mohole and play on ocean you have use for your steal then , try placing down more intensely on titan/steel with mining guild

round 4 take that oxygen bump focus on TR,

the game before with the cards you keep no reason ever to go cinematix, but if you go for sure keep optimal aerobreaking, and then dont push asteroid if you have crappy cards you may save the game with card draw ocean, but with that start impossible

but looking at the games before with beginner corps i see you don't really know yet what you are doing. So hope it doesnt come over rude, but you are still really bad but easy to improve.

and if you haven't really played the game before your times are ridiculously for that not sure how you read all the cards etc
you cannot compare to the relatively fast what a wonderfull world which has far fewer individual cards

My friend and I combined have 100+ solo plays of Terraforming Mars, not counting multiplayer games. From that, we've learned that solo requires a different approach. You only really can afford to build an engine that helps you terraform (increase oxygen/heat and play oceans). Building a points engine will often cost you the game in solo mode.

We really enjoy playing together when we get the chance, because then we can actually take advantage of the synergies to build some pretty impressive point engines.

My friend is good enough that he now attempts to win solo AND score 100 points or more. It requires the right card draws, but he's become efficient enough that he does accomplish it with some regularity. Keep at it!

oh, absolutely :-D
I've just been messing around to get a feel for the game. But it's about time to give it more serious tries. Thanks!

Underground Detonations - generally viewed as a very weak card - is actually pretty decent in a single player game when played early :-) The temperature scale has the most steps and you really need to get the temperature engine running somehow.

Just tried another game (still without thinking too much), and maxed out water and temp. Ignored plants, but ended with 5 oxygen. Very happy with the progress, winning definitely seems doable if I p[l]ay more attention next game. Thanks for the motivation!
