Wings vs. Natural Selection

So I’ve done the silly “Buy Natural Selection after a roll that had a 3, and die instantly” thing a couple times, and I get that is how the game is interpreted. But shouldn’t Wings kick in to counter Natural Selection? The sad thing is, I had enough energy to buy Child, but decided to use Wings. Would Child have countered Natural Selection?
I guess I could play a couple games to try to test it.

Not sure if it works tbh but I've seen someone have background dweller along with Natural Selection so they can reroll all 3's infinitely
