I was playing a three player game in which I was going to win, everyone had passed for the last gen, and all that was left was for every player to play their last greenery from the plant production of the final production step. But after passing for the end of the gen, the player in last place just logged off, effectively leaving the game. So, once they were out of time, they were skipped. So now, instead of getting a win against both players, I only get a win against the player who left, and get counted as a tie against the remaining player. And since I was higher ranked than the 2nd place player I'm now tied with, I lost 2.8 ELO from that instead of gaining some extra. Feelsbadman.
I understand why things could kinda work this way in mid game, because just because you were ahead in points in the mid game doesn't mean you'd win in the end. But here, the game was decided. Sure, in some edge case some one could throw the game by placing a greenery incorrectly, but I was 11 points ahead...
