I would like an to see an area in the game’s interface where players can say they are leaving the game for now and will return in approximately so many hours.

Why not use the table chat?

Good thought. Sometimes there is a language or time zone barrier. Maybe if there were a formal way to communicate a pause in the game, more people would do that.
