Round scoring Mojo card: bug or intended difference between English and German rule?

Post by Thomas »

At the end of the round, for scoring the Mojo card, the English rule says:
„If you have the Mojo card in front of you: score 0 points if your score is lower to or equal to the other players’“

but the German rule says:
„If the person with the Mojo card has the lowest score (or equal to other players) that person does not get additional points.“

Does anybody know, if the English version wanted to say the same as the German version (and is just missing the word „additional“) or if it intentionally differs from the German version? (the „score 0 points“ could either mean „score 0 points in total this round“ or could mean „score 0 points for the Mojo card (and normal points for the normal cards)“.

I know that the BGA implementation scores 0 points in total, if the player has the Mojo card, but is this correct or a bug?

Yes, the version on BGA is correct.
The German version must be interpreted in such a way that the player with the Mojo card does not score any points in this round (if this score is lower to or equal to the other players)

I don't think so. At first glance, the English rules seem to be different than the German rules: "If you have the Mojo card in front of you: score 0 points if your score is lower to or equal to the other players’", but before that the rules say: "For each color, keep the card with the highest value. Add them together to get your score."
So scoring is 0 points only for the mojo card, the other cards of the mojo player score as regular, as the German rules say explicitly.

I have already opened a bug report on this: https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=123644

Yes, each player's score for the round is calculated using the highest card in each color.
Then we compare these scores and the player with the Mojo card gets 0 points for the round if his score is lower to or equal to the other players.
The Mojo card indicates 0 on its front (and not +0) while on its back is clearly represented the +
As for the translations, unfortunately I have no control over them and I'm sad that it's confusing. But as for the rule, I am sure of it because I am the designer of this game ;)

Maybe, you could contact the German publisher (Pegasus Spiele), so that they can fix the rule at least for the next print run and/or publish an FAQ on their website. (and the official rule video at https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sxZ_3uv1eJM should to get fixed, too.)
