Perfect reputation?

Post by Nrthcarman23 »

How can someone with multiple games where they run out of time, or disconnect, or any of the other reasons still have a 100 reputation? There was someone I saw recently that had -4, -59, and still had a 100% perfect reputation. They were also currently play 151 games AT THE SAME TIME! Those negative blasts against them were over the past 551 games in the past 6 months. Just wondering, should there be bigger penalties for people who constantly run out of time, disconnect, or whatever else reasons? Let me know your thoughts..

I also did a suggestion to the moderators about limiting the number of games a player can run at the same time (turn based and real time), thus this would make it more likely that a player would not run out of time, and leave others hanging.

There are some bad bad community members on BGA who get away with ruining THOUSANDS of games at a time. They sign up for every tournament there is and disappear for months on end, while each and every one of over 1,000 games ends badly. Same players have been doing this for many years with no action taken.

BGA does not care how many games are ruined or timed out or how bad these few people play. Naming them or complaining will get YOU kicked off of BGA and nothing will change.

Best answer is find a few good friends to play instead of strangers, create your own tournaments with friends, and play "Arena" where the players tend to care and where you find the best community member players.

How? Because every game finished within its time limits gives +1 reputation, so it's very easy to recover from any karma penalty. It's very easy if you just had a bad day and continue playing normally. It's even easier if you are actively trying to get your karma back as fast as possible.

That's quite a bold claim. Thousands of games at a time? Even if I tried to do nothing else in a day other than sign up for as many games as possible I wouldn't be able to hit a thousand games in one day. And then they disappear for months on end? So you're not going to see them for months then.

You would need over 200 people who each take a day every couple of months to just sign up for as many games as possible before abandoning the site for this to be a consistent issue. They would also need to play 100 games of Can't stop or something in between to get their reputation back up in order to do it again. Why would they go through all this effort? Well just to spite Joysjoy specifically I guess.

But maybe I'm being too skeptical. You can't name them on the forums but you can PM people, why don't you PM me the username of 1 person who has done this and I'll believe you.

Look at this thread:

The only time I've had a post moderated was by referring to this player by an acronym, not even their full username.

I am not exaaggeraing at all. If I could name one particular person. you would see this is how bad some players get. The best I can do are these screen shots without any identifiying marks. You can see that all the last 794 games have been ruined by this person disappearing again.

Be sure to scroll on the link. I tried to keep them in order, but it was too hard. I had to skip some of them because it was too many screen shots to reach 382 most recent abandoned games and 773 over time limits.

That is bizarre and I honestly do not get it. I would have guessed it wasn't a real user and was just a way to hide a bug if it wasn't for the fact that they have progressed in some games, just none of the tournament games. I would have even guessed they were just completely indifferent to other people with an attitude of "I want to play now" so they join a bunch of games until they get bored and leave because they don't care, but that doesn't explain the games they have zero progress in. They have been in 19 games of Heat and near as I can tell haven't taken a single action in any of them.

Humanity was a mistake, we never should have left the oceans. At the very least this user should be heavily restricted in how many games they can have active at a time.

This user pretty much single-handedly prompted a change in how the reputation requirement for tournaments is handled. I believe this release note from 6th July 2022 was intended to deal with this person's exploits:
tournaments: expel players 24h before tournament starts if they do not match karma requirements
tournaments: limit number of (TB) tournaments per player + FAQ entry about tournaments & karma
But you can see the thread I linked to above continues to discuss this person after this was implemented, so it maybe only slowed them down a little.

I think a big question is why does BGA let this one person get away with this for YEARS and never take action to stop it?

You've also noticed they're back again and immediately signed up for every tournament available?

The thing is the seem to currently be actively playing in all their games. The behaviour is just so bizarre...
