Real time and turn based difficulty feel different

Post by Hefesto1337 »

I have played 4-5 real time arena games this season and I haven't won any of them. In all games I played against some player who was really good at the game.

However, in turn based games I feel like the games are more normal. And by this I mean that I don't find terraforming pros that frequently.

Do you feel the same way? It's quite interesting, my results in turn based games are quite better.

I have joined a few tournaments a while back, all turn-based. I found that I can't really focus, I forget my game plan, etc, and therefore I perform way worse. In the end it is just a preference though.

Almost certainly they are different worlds. To get a really good rating, you have to play a huge number of games. And its just so much more effecient in terms of games per hour to play real time, so you are far more likely to see them queueing repeated (for any game) in real time versus turn based.

Also, at least for me, having made the mistake a of signing up for a few swiss tournaments. Playing 15ish simulatenous games of the same type often leads to confusing one game for another for me. And trying to take fast turns on my phone while at work has caused many a mistake as well. Leading to being less competitive for me, but still enjoyable even when mistakes are made.

My fellows, there is a note-taking option in the top right usually in BGA (haven't played TfM turn-based, but this is true for other games). Just write down your next thoughts there, and you won't forget :D

I have an extremely strong preference for real time play and this posts 'supports' my feelings. I am aware there's a note section where you can make notes to yourself. There's tons of cards in TMars; notes I would leave myself would have to include the cards I saw and discarded, how an opponent played a certain previous turn that makes me think they have some other card, etc. . Indeed, real time is what I prefer and, for what I have seen, more seasoned players play real time. Best wishes.

I'm same to the Cranes guy. I lose my action plan when an opponents takes full 3 days to take his turn. I prefer real time games when I know I can focus and got 1-2 hours to spare.

I can remember what my plan was on viewing the game, provided that I don't play too many games at once.

You don’t need all that. Just contemplate your following move and write it down. This game isn’t poker, it’s not that deep. Mostly memorization with some slight adjustments.

TM is far far far more complexed than poker. I calculate sometimes 10+ moves ahead across generations.

Turn based is different bc I get to calculate more and more importantly take back my blunders if time allows. Hence far higher winning percentage.

If you play like "this isn't poker' and not playing around cards your opponent may have (and give you hints they may have by how they play)... you are probably leaving substantial winning percentage points 'on the table'. Agree with RoyalR; TMars has plenty of complexity.
