Why can't players always play with their preferred colour?

Post by OzLefty76 »

We're all playing on our own computers.

If someone's used to playing green - why can't their own computer always show them playing Green? Literally every player could have their colour being green ON THEIR SCREEN, and just have the other players shown TO THEM as different colours.

It doesn't matter what colour the other player sees themselves as, because we're not looking at their screen, we're looking at our own.

It's like WW2 competitive games, where both sides can be the allies at the same time - the computer just makes the other side the axis.

Same with BGA - if you have a "premium feature" where people can nominate a preferred playing colour, why not always let them use it?

1. It would be confusing if people ever mentioned colors, e.g. "the blue player" in chat, since it would be meaningless.

2. BGA has 900+ games, and updating them all to support this change would be very time-consuming. Some of them might associate a specific color during a game with specific components. The benefit of the change may not be worth the time and effort involved.

Search for "color" in the Suggestions sub-forum and you'll see this is a well-worn topic.
