RR Tourney, all games started simultaneously

Post by Oxmeister »

Hey,

Hoping somebody here might be able to help. I've setup a new tournament, my first time making one on BGA, and I've clearly misinterpreted a setting.

I configured games to start as soon as possible, with a group stage (Round robin) format, 6 per group. My thinking here was that it would mean that the games would be in 5 'rounds' , with a new game playing once both players in that game had completed their game from the previous round, or when the round as a whole was finished. It seems it just means every game starts at once, which I guess could work in some situations, but won't here.

Games are turn-based, but only with a maximum time of 10 days, so 5 games will be too much for both.

A few questions.

1) is there anything that can be done - I don't have buttons , but would an admin change it?
2) Assuming no to above, how best can I advise players? when do the timers (5 days per player, 10 days total) start? when the invite is sent for the table, or when they accept it?
3) is there a length of time a player has to accept such an invite?

Thanks in advance

Congrats on organizing your first tournament. Sorry you learned about the RR thing the hard way. The less hard way is looking in this Tournaments forum where it comes up a few times a year when someone else finds out the hard way. I'd suggest using the Swiss format instead, which doesn't start all the games at once.

No.

You accept an invite to a tournament, not to individual games within a tournament. The first person's timer will begin when the tournament begins. Unless you have playing hours set and for some reason you set the tournament to begin during non-playing hours. In that case, whoever's turn it is when the first playing hours window opens will have their clock start running (remember, someone can still play moves outside the playing hours window).

No. See above. You don't get to accept/decline invites to individual games.

Thank you for a quick reply.

To clarify what I'm referring to, I have 3 boxes in the bottom right of my screen inviting me to specific games , each with a player in my group, with the options of "Join" and "Snooze".

I guess another way to put this is, what happens if I snooze and don't join for several days?

You'll get added into all your tournament games regardless. I've never paid attention enough to work out what the time is, but I'm guessing it's something like 1/2/6/12 hours or something where BGA just automatically adds both players into the turn-based game and starts it regardless.

I only ever recall seeing "your game has started" type messages, followed by "it is your turn to play at ___" if I'm the first player. I don't remember an option to snooze and don't even know what that means. Is this due to a match setting that isn't "as soon as possible"?

Ed.: I just had two tournaments start with the "join/snooze" options. I'm 99% sure that feature was not there the previous time I entered a tournament.
