looking for XP collecting turn based crew

Post by richyfourtytwo »

I love this game and I'm also motivated by XP collecting. So I'm looking for crew pals who are OK with stopping after each mission and re-starting with the next, so we can (eventually) play all 50, but have them count as 50 individual games (rather more, as some missions surly will need multiple attempts). I don't know the exact mechanics of re-starting yet, but from what I've read here on the forum it seems to be unproblematic.

I want to play turn-based. I prefer relaxed time settings (2 days per move) but usually play multiple moves per day.

Looking for like-minded players. Aiming for a team of 4, but would also be OK with 2 or 3 if we can't find 4. Beginners welcome. I am a beginner here on BGA myself, with some IRL experience though, but definitely not super-experienced.

A bloated elo will lead to frustration for you and your future teammates. Many players with the 300+ game sat through hours of learning from many players and ultimately learning defined conventions. If you’re gaining that elo with fellow beginners you will lack the wisdom gained by playing with many, granted, some of us are quite “elitist”. My hope is to let you know that your endeavor will not be well received by many experienced players.

Hmmm, I'm not after ELO at all and it's not even displayed anymore if I'm not mistaken.

Also, have thise players with 300+ games gone through 300*50 missions? (I'm not claiming they haven't, but it sounds impressive.)

Anyway my 'endevour' doesn't seem to be going anywhere anyway.

Not 300*50 but 300*5 for busy players and a lot 300*10.

What exactly are you after then? XP as in getting the 10, 20, 50, 100... victories achievements? XP themselves are not used for anything at all.

The current rating system of The Crew (+1 for every game, even on defeat) is simply bad, after all.
There are good alternative suggestions (check this forum), but seems the developers just don't maintain this game any longer.

Probably up to 8700: https://boardgamearena.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=126604
Also, XP has its own leaderboard in the front page.

Yup. Sure XP aren't useful for anything. Playing at all arguable isn't. :-) But they do motivate me. That might look silly to many people, but that doesn't change it.

I don't really have a problem with your plan personally. The ELO for this game just doesn't mean much except for a very vague indication of experience. (which is an even vaguer indication of skill).

I think most players have had their time wasted by players Abusing regular tables to farm elo. Which is rude and annoying,
but is explicitly not what you're trying to do. As you're looking for a group where everyone agrees beforehand.

And it's not like you're trying to just spam mission 1 for an easy elo boost. If you've finished all 50 missions, I'd say that makes your elo much more deserved than someone with 100 or more who's never gotten past mission 20.

I do think your plan just won't work for this game though. There's plenty of players who'd otherwise love to commit to a full 1-50 run. But just not with the hassle of having to start a new table every mission

And on the flip side, for the people who do would want to farm elo, 1-50 turn based is just not a great way to do that.

So if you wanna get to 50 just start a table and stick with it.
If you wanna get your number of games in, just play some regular games, most of them don't go that long anyways, though that probably differs in turn based

Judging from the responses so far it very much looks like you are right.

Sure, I've done that anyway. I like this game a lot and I'm not here JUST for the XP. :-)

This surprises me to hear you say this, when it seems you've supported elo that only goes up, and has no meaning, in the past.

The developer spent time asking people for their opinions on elo for crew, and no really great system was suggested. It's a unique game since we can play a different amount of missions, start and quit on any level, and still need to factor in teammate's elo. If someone has a good idea, that doesn't involve an incentive for players to play differently than they do now, I think they should post it.

It would be good if playing all 50 missions, one at a time as the op wants to do, received the same elo as a player playing all 50 mission in one game. Perhaps impossible to implement though.
