running score

Post by booyamama »

does anyone else think it would be cool to know what your running total is (like other games on BGA)?

Yes, since other games with more complex scoring have it on BGA. I miss it also in Harmonies!

But that's part of the beauty of the game. You can work it out yourself as your playing of course, but without doing that, makes it a lot more thought provoking when taking your turn and selecting your cards as opposed to just having information handed to you that takes away some element of it.

I guess I would vote in favor of having a running total. I honestly like it better without a running total, I feel it plays more like if you would play in person with people, but I keep getting matched against people who spend 3 minutes just on their last turn because they're counting points for their final move. I'd rather not sit there waiting for my opponent to do this, and it's happened enough that it's starting to make this game annoying to play. :(

I agree with the earlier sentiment that a running total might take away from the excitement this game provides.

I calculate the score by hand often in Harmonies lol. I weaponize the extra knowledge to decide whether to rush the ending or not and as a general vibe check. Don't take away my advantage! :P There's a reason I play almost exclusively turn-based though...slow and steady won last season 8-)

Would be a great option! I'm bad at math.

My wife and I are in agreement (surprisingly): running point totals are preferred!

I was about to ask the same. Almost any game with explicit information on the table shows the real time scoring, even terraforming mars has this option by default in the arena mode.
So for what (un)logical reason can't that happen here?
Same with Fromage or Harmonies as some of you has already said. This is an incoherent behavior in the site. At least, add the opiton so the player can choose whether to show the score or not.

I think showing a fixed score would go against the chaotic nature of the game.

It also probably wouldn't be in line with how most people calculate their score during the game, so it would end up being more a hindrance than a help, I think. Your score is constantly changing during the game, sometimes up and sometimes down depending on what you do with your cards. This is a game where you have to be flexible in how you think about your and your opponent's score, and I'm not sure a live scoring would fit with that.
