I was playing a game of Heat on the weekend with 5 others. As we neared the final couple of turns one player was taking his time and actually ran out of time. It showed me the "player out of time" prompt but I generally ignore that if the person is engaged in the game and maybe just working slowly. Evidently my other opponents did not show such grace. They booted the guy and we all finished the game.
Unfortunately for me I won the game, against 5 others with higher Elo than me and rather than giving me credit for defeating all five opponents, and the second place finisher credit for beating 4/5 opponents, etc... It just gave all five of us credit for beating the one guy who got booted and no credit for our placement relative to eachother.
That * when you invest your time and energy in competing and it doesn't give you credit for the hard earned victory. I think I understand why it has to be like this. Sometimes when someone is booted or quits it can impact certain players more than others. But for some games that will simply never be the case. Maybe this policy could be decided on a game by game basis?
