Homekeeper when person in the wrong room

Post by WallBuilder »

I'm in a game where I have grown in a 2-room house with lover and then played homekeeper. But it won't let me grow with my first action, presumably because my room next to a field and pasture has 2 people in (it won't as soon as I move a person to family growth). In real life, I'd have my two people in the other room, so my homekeeper room was clearly free for growth, but the game won't let me move people. This looks like a bug - I should be able to grow in this situation?

The Lover child now lives in the Homekeeper space. Thus, you have no space to grow family again.

If you want to run this combo, you have to do it the opposite way. You should Homekeeper, grow family, then play Lover, otherwise it will not work.

But why? The lover child can live in the other room.

No, there are two different topics in Agricola regarding growths.

1. Add additional space to your home, like with Homekeeper "Exactly one clay or stone room in your house can hold an additional person". Then you can use the Wish for Children action space
2. And then there are cards that give you "Family Growth Even without Room" action, like what Lover or Seducer does. Also the Field Doctor is similar, but for that you actually need to go to the Wish for Children space to grow family "Even without room"

If you've used any of the "Even without room", the new family member instantly will move in to any new room you add to your house, either by building like normal, or adding capacity like in #1 described above.

Thanks - and OK I understand now. That wasn't my interpretation of the type of growth Homekeeper gives. Ah well, one to remember!
