Solo Mode Handicap

In Solo mode it asks for a handicap at the beginning. Does anyone know what this does?

It gives the opposition 0-3 extra points (so if you use handicap 3, the opposition can get up to 43 points, instead of a max of 40 points).

Would be nice if there were any instructions at all re the Solo mode.
