Simpson character?

Post by slimy_asparagus »

I am puzzled by the appearance of a Simpsons character in many news articles. Is BGA paying for this?

You're confused. The person you're seeing is Ed Zanders, and not subject to any media rights whatsoever.

Doesn't really answer the question.

It does, though. From reading that thread, you'll see that BGA are fond of hiding Ned Flanders-inspired Easter Eggs throughout their new game announcements. Orléans is just the latest example.

It doesn't though. The question in the original post itself (not the title)--literally the only sentence ending in a question mark--asks whether BGA is paying for this. That thread answers why the character appears in almost all the new game release artwork, but not the specific question of whether it's paid for.

It does though. The essence of the post is 'Why is there a The Simpsons character in the articles?', which is more or less answered (with the rather feeble explanation of "Because they like to put him there, that's why"). The question of royalties is more of an additional question and an extra part of the confusion. I'd imagine that the answer is 'Pfft, no, of course not!' and that, even if TPTB at Disney were actually aware of this, not even they (a company that have long been infamous for their litigiousness) could be arsed with a C&D letter over this.

The real question, one the answer for which I've never been able to find thus far, should be... WHY NED?!?

I think the OP's opinion about whether the question was answered is relevant, even if it isn't dispositive. They said their question had not been answered. What you call the "essence of the post" is merely the subject matter of the title. That is answered, but not the question in the post itself. Now why the OP cares is up to them to state.

As for why Ned: that has been answered before. It's because of his last name, and one of the founders of BGA has a connection to the Flanders region. I should say that this is speculation because I don't think anyone at BGA has ever officially acknowledged that this is correct. I will check the AMA souridouset did on Reddit and edit this post if he answered it there.
