Is this a matching bug?

Something that seems odd has been happening to me. For the last year it seems that I am disproportionally being matched up with really high level people. I am in the 100s now because about every game I play is against a 400+ player. For example, in the last 7 games I have played I have played one person in the 100s and out of the other 6 the lowest level was 476 with the rest being 500- 700s. It has been a joke between me and my friends, but I secretly wonder if I pissed off a developer or something. I recently even turned off playing the higher level guys in menu to see if that would help and then I had these 7 games. I don't mind playing a high level person, but it would be nice to not have every game that way. Anyone else have this problem or know what is going on?

You're playing arena mode, and in arena, you can't filter out by ELO.

Otherwise, it's likely just a probability/sampling effect.

The people who play Ark Nova the most are more likely to be higher ELO players.
The people who play Arena the most are more likely to be higher ELO players.
The people who are at Elite Arena tier (which you currently are) are more likely to be higher ELO players.

So, at any given time that you start a game, the pool of players you could possibly be matched up with is likely almost entirely made up of higher ELO players.

If you want to get more practice in against lower/moderate ELO players, you should NOT play in Arena, and start your own games with an ELO cap.

one more thing, you can filter arena by league, so the top league are more likely willing to play against other top league, and as low elo aren't there yet, you are matched against better player on average.

Ah that is interesting and makes sense. I guess the only thing that is weird, but could also be just chance, but my buddy is in the 300s and he barely ever gets matched that high, or at least not on a regular basis like me. Either way I will quit complaining and try to get better haha. I used to be in the 300s but now I lose most games
