game seems to depend very much on luck such as how good the grapes and how good the order cards are. maybe a variant where every time either purple or green cards are drawn player draws twice as many and then discards half?

This would be an good idea. Draw 2 cards, discard one of the cards you drew, or on a + bonus field you draw 4, discard 2 of the same type of cards.

This is a popular houserule I use because sometimes you don't get the right orders compared to the grapes you planted or you must and greatly reduces the annoying factor of getting bunch of useless orders which actually makes the game too swingy.

I really prefer playing by official rules, but yes, the game is incredibly luck based. Many visitor cards are incredible, many are almost useless. Just hope you get the incredible ones.

1. Banker, or any other that can save money on building. if played early. Instant money is bonkers.
2. Any guest that allows filling orders. Being able to deliver multiple orders in single year uncontested is OP, especially in endgame. This is why Shop is most OP building in Tuscany.
