UTC clarification?

Post by Donna20 »

Twice recently I have registered for tournaments starting at 14 and 15 UTC. According to every webpage I checked that means 9 and 10 am. When I check the UTC clock on the BGA forums page, the time showing corresponds to that as morning time. However, both of these games started in the afternoon, 2 and 3 pm. I am beginning to wonder if there is something about UTC time I don’t understand. Can anyone explain?

14:00 and 15:00 are 2 and 3 pm. The times shown on tournament registration pages are shown in your local time, not UTC (unless you happen to live in UTC+0) so you don't have to do the math. The tournament page will say something like "Start date tomorrow at HH:MM" without specifying any time zone, including UTC.

As far as I know, the only thing on BGA not converted to your local time is the forum post time stamp.
