Default Mahjong Wish Seems Random?

The interface seems to have the default mahjong wish be something random - I'd understand if it defaulted to whatever I passed the next player, or to no wish, but often I don't understand what the default wish is. Is there some wishing convention I'm unaware of that the interface believes I'd want to follow?

There is no default wish in this game.

When you play the 1 as a single or part of a straight, you decide whether to wish

A) for a card between 2-A

or

B) for nothing

I'm aware of the rules, I'm just confused about the interface.

When I go to make a wish, I have to select either the number to wish for or the no wish symbol, as you described, then click confirm. Sometimes after I play the 1, and the popup to make a wish comes up, one of the numbers starts out selected, and I'm not sure why.

I've always assumed it was whatever your most recent wish was, still loaded in your player states file, but that's just a hunch...

The Last whis you have chosen is selected at the next
