People abusing the time limit

Hello everyone!

I'm (still) in a game with the user "*" who, when he understood that he lost (90% done, I win in 2 turn in Spendor), just deco of the game (he started it in no time limit).
I've looked in his history, and he's done it multiple time until the opponent give up.
The question, what can I do? (In a elo contest with my brother so I won't give up!)


Luckily for me, it's just giving me extra motivation to wait and do my homework until he gets banned so he can't do it anymore lol

The game is a "friendly" game with no time limit as you mentioned. That also means there will be no Elo gained or lost and no penalties if either player quits.

Confusingly, there are two kinds of friendly game, real-time and turn-based, but they are both labelled real-time within the game. It looks like you are in a real-time game. You can only be in one real-time game at a time, so you won't be able to play any others until this one ends. Luckily, it will end if there is no move after some time (4 hours, I believe).

The bottom line is that your opponent is not "abusing" the time limit, and you are free to leave this friendly game with no penalties. Note that BGA has a policy against calling out other players by name, so you should probably edit your post to remove the player's name.

You should quit and red thumb this person. As Shivaware mentioned, you joined a "friendly" time limit game instead of a "normal" game, so you cannot gain or lose any ELO so this game won't help with your ELO contest with your brother. But you also can't get a karma penalty for quitting.

The whole point of friendly games is that they can be played and quit with no consequences. They should only be played with people you know well, or else things like this can happen. And they should not be played at all if you care about ELO.

The other player is not going to get "banned." This person is doing nothing wrong other than being annoying. You can avoid this in the future by carefully reviewing the game settings before you accept (or by configuring the game settings yourself).

If it was a friendly game, there would have been no elo adjustment in any case, even if the game finished normally with one winner and one (or more) losers.

Good point. I was trying to demonstrate that the other player hadn't been kicked or "banned," but I can see how it could be interpreted that ELO didn't change because the game ended this way (despite both Shiva and me saying that there was never going to be an ELO change with this setting).

Report him. Seriously. Don't waste your time waiting for him to get banned; the mods will likely take action faster if you report the specific instances.

Report someone for not playing/quitting a friendly game? I don't expect that to lead to any consequence, except a possible penalty to the reporter if they do it too often.

Yes, reporting someone for no legitimate reason is the fastest way to get moderated yourself. Friendly games specifically exist with no time limit. It's play at your own risk.

There is nothing to report for the reasons explained in other posts in this thread. I encourage you to read them.
