Why did scavenger+foraging get three food?

Can anyone explain what happened here?

I attacked with my carnivore, and their species#3 reduced by one population.
Their species#2 then:
- activated scavenger (makes sense)
- got one meat food from the food bank (makes sense)
- got one plant food from the watering hole
- activated foraging
- got one plant food from the watering hole

What's with those two plant foods? Why was foraging activated at all, when the scavenger card gives it meat food not plant food?

It had one meat food before my carnivore attacked, and in the screenshot you can see it now has two meat and two plant, so it really did gain 3 food.

He auto feed from the middle because that's his only species that can eat, which maybe made it seem like it was a part of your turn

Oh, you're probably right, it was the next feeding, but it happened immediately when I finished eating with the scavenger so there was no indication of what was actually happening. Sadly the game log on this game is very confusing and hard to read - it especially makes it hard to see when turns start and end, and which player initiated what action.
