How to create a rematch with some but not all players?

Recently had a 3 player game where one player ran way over time repeatedly, until I kicked them. I told the remaining player I'd start a new game for us where we could get some other third player who might be better about time. But now I can't do it, and it's frustrating:

1. If I click "propose a rematch" it adds both of them, and I can't find a way to remove the player I don't want to invite.

2. If I start a game the normal way, and type the good player's name in, it tells me it's "impolite" to invite someone I don't know, and won't let me invited them.

Other than adding someone I don't know as a "friend", which I'd rather not do, is there any way to invite the good player to a re-match without the bad one?

That last part in bold is wrong. There is a warning, but it doesn't stop you. In the context of you specifically telling someone you're about to invite them, it should have been obvious it was ok.

Also, you're not on my friends list but I just invited you to a game. Check your email.

But that warning message is absolutely silly given that BGA provides buttons specifically for inviting strangers who have the game on their favorites list to the table. And if you do it....there is no warning!

That's not an invitation (which reserves a place at the table for that player), but a suggestion. It simply sends a chat message to the player (or perhaps a notification like what you get with the "bell" feature) with a link to the table.

The connotation of the warning is that a direct communication to a stranger about a game being available is "impolite," so whether is it an "invitation" or a "suggestion" is a distinction without a difference vis-à-vis the person you're communicating with. The warning isn't about the etiquette of reserving a spot for a stranger.

Thanks. It must have been a UI glitch - it really didn't let me select them and send the invitation, and I thought that must be because of that "impolite" warning. Now that I know that's not how it's supposed to work, I tried again today, and I was able to invite them, even though it still gives the warning.

I haven't tried specifically with a rematch, but in the "old lobby" it should be possible to withdraw invitations (remove players) from the table.

I think it should be, but do you know how?

Open the table, and click on "expel player".

Unless for some reason (e.g. premium game and you're not premium) you're not the administrator of the new table.

Okay, I see it now. When the other player hasn't joined yet, their entire rectangle is grayed out, and the "expel player" link is there so it's also grayed out. But you can still click on it. Misleading, but now that I know, it works.

I'd open a feature request to change that, but I don't think they're going to make any changes to the old table UI, because they have that horrible new table UI. Which doesn't even have an "expel player" option at all - I just searched for a couple of minutes and don't see it.

Does that mean if they ever eliminate the old UI and force us to use the incredibly awful new UI, this will no longer be possible?

All we know is that it isn't there now. This question can only be answered by someone privy to the development pipeline.
