Hi! I just played a game and I am confused by something about bonus tiles, I don't know if it is a bug.

I got the base conservation project "Primates" by pkaying the Proboscis Monkey. In my last turn, I wanted to use the project in the second slot, I had 3 primate icons and the bonus tile that says "You may use this tile as any icon when supporting a base conservation project. Flip the tile after use". But the game didn't let me use it! If I had used it, I would have elevated my primate icons to 4 and supported the second slot. Instead I had to settle for the third slot.

Is this correct? a bug? I clicked on the tile many times to no effect. The tile was there (it wasn't flipped so I didn't use it in another support action). My wife tells me that when you can use it, BGA automatically lets you do it. Am I on the wrong here?

If the Primates really was a base project (= one of the 3 projects you started with), I'd think it's a bug. If it was one of the projects someone played later in the game, it isn't.

I think that you just click on the space you want - ie. click on the 4 space and it will automatically use your tile. You don't need to interact with the tile at all (possibly what your wife is also saying). Not sure if you tried that, or just gave up and clicked the 2 space when your clicking on the tile did nothing.

Sorry! I thought I was posting on the Ark Nova forums thats why I assumed the game :p

I think I found the answer. The "Primates" project was not one of the first three projects placed in the setup. Although I understand that, my mind assumed that playing a card from the category "base conservations projects" would mean it is a base conservation project, I don't know if I made myself clear.

This is the correct answer. While it’s a bit unintuitive, a project is only a base conservation project if it’s set out at game setup. Projects gained from rhinos and probiscous don’t count as base conservation projects. This affects that bonus tile, breeding programs, and the endgame scoring card that counts animals that aren’t part of a base project.
