100 eLo sTrAtEgY gUiDe

Post by BananaHarambe »

Happy April everyone, it’s time for another strategy guide, the 100 eLo sTrAtEgY gUiDe.

The purpose of this guide is to get you to 100 ELo and stay there. It’s mostly written from a 2 player perspective, but many principles will also apply to 3p and 4p.

1 fOcUs OnLy oN YoUrSeLf

This game is a race to 60 points and going fast is good. Don’t stop and think about what your opponents are doing, this will distract you from going maximum speed in the race. Take whatever you think will make you go the fastest without any consideration of other player.

When picking, always pick the coolest looking card that you want to use. Based on either card effect (situationally really strong) or based on card art/style, up to you. Don’t worry about boring, functional cards to give you early game stones like Undine or Basilisk or consistent scoring cards like Freyja or Gi-rin, sNoOzE. Pick something with an unrealistically high ceiling like Yuki Onna Exalted or Hestia instead.

3) aLwAyS FiLL yOuR aReA

make sure to always keep your area full in order to flex on your opponent. Whoever has more cards in play is clearly winning. Don’t worry about being limited on space. Remember, you’re going to Round 10 so you’ll have lots of space. Go ahead and summon that incubus for 2 points on Round 2 to get ahead on points. Apparently there’s a hidden advantage to scoring your points earlier than later but it’s beyond my comprehension.

Remember the last point about always filling up your area? This tip goes hand in hand with that. Since you want to always fill your area whenever possible there is very little use for extra cards in hand. Where are you going to put them? Not enough space!

If you are not going to summon a card this round or mMaAyYbBeE the next round, just sell it. For example, sell that round 1 Eternity or Gi-rin. Those cards are expensive, how are you going to afford playing them any time soon?

Now you might be thinking, what am I going to be summoning in the late game? The answer is whatever shows up in the final 1-2 rounds. Always embrace the mystery box of the final round picks. Maybe you’ll get lucky and flip a Gi-rin or Eternity exactly when you need it. If not, you can always summon your final round Odin or Goblin for a few points.

This one also goes well with #3. When rushing to fill up your area ASAP you will likely encounter scenarios where you will need to summon a card that has a relatively low impact. This can be cards with only an instant only card providing a minor benefit that does nothing while in area or something with a highly situational effect like Hippogriff or Harpy that don’t provide a meaningful impact for their space.

Don’t worry about the impact of cards in your area, just summon them. Go ahead and start the game with a Hestia, then Young Forest Spirit out a Willow and follow it up with a Hippogriff and/or Mimic. Think of all the amazing value you’re going to get from those cards in play! Remember, filling up your board is good!

Many people call this game an engine builder, which makes AbSoLuTeLy nO sEnSe! This game doesn’t have engines in it, it has mythical creatures that we hunt, tame, sell, and summon. There’s no fabricating parts, using tools, AsSeMbLiNg PiEcEs tOgEtHeR, anything even remotely close to what building an engine would entail so why would you want to even think about building an engine. This game is about summoning cute creatures so so that instead!

There’s not much point in generating value each round from cards in your area each round because we got 10 full rounds to summon immediate value cards, which is plenty! Plus, the value generating cards are sOoOoO BoRiNg. Why would I want to waste a space doing something lame like make a 3-stone every round? SnOoZe zZzZzZ.

This game is a race to 60 points, why I want to bring an engine to a race? mAkEs ZeRo sEnSe!

7 dOnT sTrEsS aBoUt pOiNtS

Remember there are two ways for the game to end: either 60 points at the end of a round or round 10. The game will end on round 10 regardless so don't worry too much about scoring 60 points.

All 70 cards are similarly powerful and they all pay well with each other. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Kappa, Hippogriff, Willow, and Burning Skull all have some synergy together if you try hard enough.

9 dRaW aS mAnY cArDs aS pOsSiBlE

This is a card game so therefore card draw is really strong right? You could even draw cards that let you DRAW MORE CARDS. Think of all the cool things you could do with all these drawn cards! Don't worry about stones or space, you can figure that out later. You got 10 rounds to figure it out. Play as many card draw effects as possible regardless of what you already have, your space, and your stones. More cards in hand and area means you're winning! It’s card advantage!

Go ahead and drop that Griffon on Round 6 and play Genie Exalted Round 7 to copy it for more cards! It’s never too late to draw cards.

10 cOmMiT eArLy

Since you are going to be summoning cards to fill your area up quickly you will want to follow a strategy that aligns with your round 1-2 picks. Always commit to whatever you pick early. Started with Charybdis and Sea Spirit? You are now playing a Water build for the while game! Don’t be tempted by anything outside your strategy from the first 2 rounds!

11 gO fOr HiGh sCoRe

If you're ever in a situation to score 60 points or slightly over in the early game (rounds 6, 7, or 8) you should consider delaying your scoring another round by keeping your score under 60 points. This way you get 1 more round to play more cards and go for a high score!

Note: this guide may be much less effective for players that are 0-99 Elo and is intended for 100+ ELO players.
