People leaving game as they realise they lost (vent)

Post by tortillawars »

I've had this multiple times now and it is annoying me so much: people who leave/give up the game as soon as they realise they've lost. I guess it is to safe their ELO from taking a hit, but man, let me just enjoy seeing my plan unfold and winning a game!

If that's their intent, it fails miserably. When you leave (either quit or concede, you're not saying which), you take the full elo loss.

Is this about people intentionally letting the clock run out so that their opponent doesn’t get the full ELO for winning because the game is only part way through?

You don't mean conceding do you? As I think it's perfectly acceptable to concede when you know you've lost and it has no effect on the points.

Thumbs up to people who concede when they've lost instead of dragging it out.

I assumed the OP was referring to this.

There are some games with no hidden information or randomness that can clearly be seen to be a win-in-one-move, yet the progression is close to 0% because of the manner in which the progression is calculated.

Which allows for a player acting in bad faith and bad sportsmanship to quit, thus denying proper Elo to the winner.

I only play the game with three others especially now you get to choose how you lay your colours out. If someone quits the game it makes it null and void for everyone, which is not great form.
