Concerns about multiple games in progress in Arena mode

Post by jobefett »

When playing arena mode and having multiple games in progress, there is a BGA functionality that forces you to play the game where players turn is for the longest time.

Quote:
You must play this other game first.
Arena turn-based games rule: you must play on the table where it has been your turn for the longest time
.

I think that this is not a good thing.

Multiple reasons that support this opinion, from multiple players, some of which are mentioned below.

It blocks the player to play a quick move on some other table.
It can happen that some tables are a bit more complex and take more time to calculate compared to quick moves on other tables that are blocked.

Another reasoning is that players are already limited by time and can suffer consequences if spend all or go overtime.
So there is no reason to block the other games that can flow more fluently and enforce another rule on players.

This is a turn based game and we should be able to decide when and what to play based on private obligations.

What do you think.

Is there any specific reason for this rule that I am not aware of?

Thanks

Being able to choose would allow players to defer playing games they know they were going to lose while finishing those they know they will win. This could be problematic at the end of the Arena season.

Thanks for the answer @Jennifer512
But the scenario you are describing is handled already by the other implemented rule that whoever spends most time thinking will lose the game.
So that covers that.

I have a separate thread on this topic, because I also think that this rule is not logical.
Because I had experienced it myself, not because I wanted to defer the game but just because of private life.
I had several games in progress, majority of them in the lead and some other people defered the game but I have lost the games due to most time thinking.
Resulting in me being in 11th place last season instead of 2nd or 3rd place.

Here is the thread:

I concur with Jennifer. Deferring games over others is a form of slow play. Anything that discourages slow play is a +1 in my book.
If this would prove a problem for me, thinking about one game is holding up my being able to play in another, I would apply myself to make a faster decision or have less games running concurrently.

That being said I try to never be an AP player and if I feel I'm beginning to take to long on a turn I make the decision that feels best rather than trying to make the absolute best move.

How about implementing this "rule" only if enough time has passed. The way its implemented now forces this order of play even if the player is still very far awau from being "slow",
