Cannot place a worker on Small Diary. Please help

On my turn I want to place a worker on a Small Diary (in order to get the Lens) and there is no option to do this.
With "no option" I mean: after selecting a worker some other places (magnifying glass in Museum, magnifying glass in Objectives)
are highlighted (blue circle around), nothing is highlighted on Small Diary. I just cannot place my worker there.

At the same time, my opponent just placed his/her worker there.

I am a loss. What is happening? Any clue?

You need $2 to place a lens since someone else already took the other spot. You only have $1. Also after that you need money for the spot you put the lens which is another $4-$6. So you will have to choose something else.

The situation was the same at the previous turn, as both spots were unoccupied.
So, I think the coming $4-$6 for the spot with lens were automatically counted by the game.
