Mode names

Post by Antoonin P »

So I know that the names of the game modes are consistent with the game rules, and that the draft and ban system among all the characters appears at the end of the game rules as the “Expert” mode.

BUT ! According to the game's author himself, the game was designed for “expert” mode. And what is “normal” mode is actually more of a “discovery” mode.

As it stands, I have the feeling that it impresses players, and even at relatively high ELO levels (over 100) there are plenty of players who are playing the normal mode, which is a bit sad IMO.

I understand that the names of the game modes are linked to the rule book, but I was wondering if it wouldn't be possible to put a message under the “normal” and “expert” modes, such as “recommended mode to discover the game” under one, and “recommended once you know rules and characters” under the other.

The “normal” mode can be a source of frustration in two respects: it's in this mode that ties occur (currently not managed by the rulle book or the BGA site) and it's in this mode that you can be unlucky at the draw and none of the cards on the river suit you (which is all the more impacting when you're the first player to play, the second having the newly revealed card in his choice plus another). In this mode, with equal players, the card draw can even sometimes decide the outcome of a game.

Thank you for informing about this! I always check if there's a beginner mode, and I assume normal mode is for regular playing, so in this case it would indeed be misleading.

Since it's also not really "beginner mode" or "first game only", a better term might be "casual mode", especially since it has some luck and allows for draws.
