Moving an adventurer by swimming

Post by vanderbeek »

Hello everybody,

I have a doubt about the implementation af this rule in the bga version.

Page 4 of the Rulebook says:

-->Moving an Adventurer by Swimming
The Adventurer's starting OR ending point is a Water space
:!: Each Adventurer can be moved by swimming only once per turn

Instead in bga you can move only once per turn if the ending point is water, but you can move it two or three if the starting point is water and with the first move you jump on land or boat. Am i missing something or the bga implementation is wrong?

To be honest there are many differences in the rules between BGAs implementation and the Physical Board game that I have. The physical copy for example does not have the Kaiju and has whales instead.

Hi Vatopedian, yes this one with the kaiju is the latest re-edition of this game, probably you own the previous edition with whales. I think it's a nice game in both editions.

But the implementation should match the rules linked to from the game page, should it not?

Hi zoomboom, yes it should.
The latest re-edition is implemented here on bga, with the above mistaken rule on swimming.
I didn't understand if you are referring to somewhat else

You move by one of three ways:
- on foot
- by swimming
- move a raft

As you have said, swimming is defined as "The Adventurer's starting OR ending point is a Water space
:!: Each Adventurer can be moved by swimming only once per turn"

So if you move it from water to land, that counts as 1 swim movement. Then it moves on foot twice. There is even an example on page 4 that shows the orange meeple moving
1 from water to island tile (swimming)
2 from island to boat (on foot)

Hi Magnus, thank you very much! This was exactly what i was missing in the op.

Survive: Escape from Atlantis! (Published 1982) Has whales.
Survive the Island (re-implemented 2024) has kaiju instead of whales - whales, and other monsters, are available in a mini-expansion.
