Green checkmark under civil cards?

Post by FBones »

Sometimes I see a green checkmark under a card in the card row. It appears that it means that the card can be taken for free. I don't see anything in the rulebook about this, so I was hoping someone could clarify.

One example I recall is that I had Hammurabi and I think there was a green check mark under Michelangelo. I only noticed it because an error message showed up when I tried to use Hammurabi ability to take Michelangelo and it wouldn't let me.

Yes, the green check mark means it's free.

It's not in the rule book because there is no green check in the physical game (you just have to remember on your own). The developer just added it here as a player aid/reminder, I assume.

Where in the rulebook is this explained? I don't mean the green checkmark---I mean that you can sometimes take a civil card for free.
I didn't see it mentioned where I would have expected it to be.

Well, I don't recall if there's any place that specifically mentions "free" in the rulebook (I haven't read it in a while), but there are things that can reduce the cost of taking a card (like one of Hammurabi's powers) which can make it free if it reduces the cost to 0.

Bump for visibility. I also saw the green checkmark and didn't know what it meant.
