Next patch? What do we need?

Post by IRockEz_ »

Hello everybody, just hoping if this post will be endorsed enough we would be able to draw an attention to the topic.

That's my thought on what the game on BGA needed.

1. Bugfixes.
1a. Dictatorship locking movement in the same track when played during advancement turn. It looks like it has embedded mechanics to avoid taking same benefit twice in one turn. But it shouldn't be there. This bug just makes this awesome tapestry card almost unusable during advancement turns (when you upgrade printing press or discover space tile or use same military track benefit). This bug are not present on some civ sets.
1b. Second tech upgrade for recyclers. Maybe I'm the one so lucky, but game often skips second (regular) technology upgrade during income turn for some reason. It could be avoided by reverting turn but if you clicked okay - you screwed. And once that happened to me with regular civ, so its probably not exclusive for recyclers.

2. Revised civs. I only played twice with revised civs in my copy offline and reviewed those after online plays here. Game desperately need those. There are great adjustments, it must become standart for all games. I do understand that this is the biggest chunk of work, but thats what the game needed.

3. Desert and wetland are HORRIBLE now. Revised civs have those fixed and make them viable. Currently when I'm playing 2-3 players game and getting this pair I instantly got -100500 to moral. Cause I know I've just got handicapped right now. Its very hard to play with those capital city mats.

4. Fix nanotechnologies. Giving away 3 tech cards, which costs 9 points at final scoring for 10 points is a joke! When you have glasses tech it even give you less points and if you get there in era 3 it gave less points. I would be radical and even move this bonus from nanotechs to a computers: giving away two techs can provide good points but can be harmful before nanotechnologies benefit. And will make you consider skipping computers harder, cause I see people often skip computers using Clocks tech. But this is kinda topic for another discussion, main thing here - make bonus 2 cards instead of 3.

5. Capital city mats draft/randomize. I see no gameplay issues in giving city mats at random regardless of position on the map. I see that they are matching starting space on the game board, great, but that's it. When playing 2-3 players game you always get same pairs. Randomizing this could make less popular city mats more often usable. Draft will make this even better cause currently there is no mechanism for a last player to compensate 1st player advantage. And drafting city mats in reverse order will be precisely enough.

Rest of the things are optional. I do understand publisher desire to not to introduce expansions in bga cause this would jeopardize offline sales. Even though game not that fresh, but still. So here are optional stuff I propose to bring on bga:

6. Personal goals. Okay, when playing 2 and even 3 players game there is enough landmarks, more or less. In 4-5 players games they are at short supply. Personal goals from Plans and Ploys expansion can help to mitigate that for 3-5 players count. Not recommend to use it in duel games though. And this glimpse of content from the first expansion could provoke interest to it for the people who owns base game.

7. New tapestry cards. Base set is good enough, but introducing all/some tapestry cards from Plans And Ploys can freshen the game by quite a bit. Such step will allow to build different tapestry sets for different experience. Those sets can alter arena seasons even further with building different civilization sets.

Disclaimer: I do own Tapestry and all of the existing expansions and I love this game.
