Moderators help needed in translations

Post by Sawyer Einherjar »

Heyo moderators of the site!

I have a question:
Is there a way to change the translations which you see on the board as well? or do these take longer before it adapts to new translations?

As stated on your rules for translations: For example, if you want to play 'Dragonheart' with your 10-year-old nephew and he doesn't speak English yet, no problem! Just help us translate Board Game Arena into your language!

I really love that idea. And thus i've been correcting Dutch sentences and / or rewriting them in order to make them better suited (more clear) for the specific game or action they are involved in.

However, i noticed there are some thingies i cannot chance on the translation page. Namely the hard writings on the game board.
For libertalia, Den has been translated with Hol. Eventhough it is indeed one of the translations possible. The more common use for the Dutch word "hol" (hole) is as a reference to some1s arse, when its not combined with another word and used in sentences as seen in libertalia. So within this game it basically keeps telling me to stick characters into my arse and pull them out again later. Admitting it brings a smile on my face when reading it but it also made me want to chance the word. ^^

Therefore, within the translation page i completly removed every possible "hol" into "Piratennest" (pirate den) which just seems more appropiate. I thought this would change the word on the play board as well. Nothing happend to that though, so now in the game action descriptions (under the players) it says piratennest while on the board itself it's still called Hol.

Is there a way this could be changed? If this is not possible due to resources or because you want to spent your time on more pressing issues i understand, but please then let me know cuase i'll undo all my changes to the word "hol" to remove confusion for new players playing the game. :)

Also in english it seems that there is written "Cemetary" this should be "Cemetery", so e instead of a. I also changed this on english translation page on a request of an English player. But same problem occurs.

Another game is Puerto Rico. In the Dutch version, the settler is translated to "Landbouwer". However on your site the litteral translation is used: Kolonist (settler). For Dutch players used to the normal boardgame this is a bit confusion. Ofcourse you get used to it fast but just one of those beauty details! :D. Also tried to retranslate all the kolonist into Landbouwer. But again the word stayed the same on the board and only changed in the game action descriptions :(.

Plz let me know whether you could change it or whether its to much trouble (for the moment). In the last case i'll reset all the translation as to prevent confusion on difference in card/action description and actualy names used on the gaming board.

love and greets,
Sawyer

Hello,

Thanks for your interest in making the translations better!
Your changes are good, so there is no reason to undo them. If these strings have been translated one day, they are in the translation system, and them not updating when changed is a bug (some troubles about partial updates have been reported, this may be linked to it). This may be a simple delay due to caching or something else, but anyhow we need to investigate... when we get some time ;)

Cheers,
Een

I took the time to look and... thanks!
Translations were indeed not updating completely due to some configuration mistake.

All fixed now, pirate wording is now decent ;)
