Moving guard dog

One aspect of this game that I don't yet understand is how to move the guard dog. I've done a google search for it already.

There is an asterik in the card of Trick used. The asterik mark where the guard dog will move when you use that trick

Also you can use the rotate buttons to change where the guard dog will end up.
