Frustrating BGA system

Post by zwieszony »

The system in multiplayer games is terribly annoying. When one player leaves or exceeds the time. In a normal game, the remaining players win. That's ok. However, in tournaments, there is a draw and the better players are eliminated. Because the system gives them places that do not qualify for the next round.

Can't it be done in such a way that the players remaining at the table have an influence on their final result?

Has anyone tried to do anything about this?

You're asking a question about Tournaments. Have you read through the Tournaments sub-forum where this is asked every month?

Here is a link to a thread discussing it https://boardgamearena.com/forum/viewto ... 16#p216316, which has a link to another thread discussing it and also a link to a site suggestion for a fix.

Hello,
Something happened during my last Small World tournament that I found quite frustrating.
In my game, one player was AFK, and another left the game entirely.
Despite continuing to play until the end, I was ranked 3rd and eliminated from the tournament because only the top two players advanced.

I don’t understand why the player who left the game was ranked 2nd while I, who stayed and played the whole match, ended up 3rd.
This feels unfair and not based on merit.

Maybe the system need to clarify how the ranking system works in such cases or give authority of the organisator to eliminated leaver and select who pass? It seems to reward non-participation over actual gameplay.

This has been explained so many times in the Tournaments forum.

Briefly, with one exception that I know of (Heat), when a player is expelled that's it. The game is over as far as the BGA framework is concerned and it posts a message telling you this. Go to the link I gave above for more details.

So basically,
because I have a "newer" account, I can't win due to how this system works.
And since there's only about one tournament per month, I shouldn't even bother playing if that specific option isn't enabled.
All because of a poorly designed system.
Alright, now I get it...

I'm not sure where the "one tournament per month" thing comes from. It depends on the game. Some games have 10 tournaments per month.

As for "because I have a 'newer' account, I can't win due to how this system works," yes that's the flaw. And if you hate it (and I do, even though my account is now so old that I'd likely benefit from it more often than not), vote for the site suggestion posted in the thread I linked to.

Something is being trialled about it, Heat has it so the game plays to conclusion regardless, so someone leaving the game doesn't void the result. When it was brought in it was said it was a trial, so I would assume with a view to bringing it to more games.
