Simple Gods on/off vs. Advanced Gods

Post by yearofglad »

What is the difference between turning Simple Gods off and turning Advanced Gods on?

What happens if I turn off Simple Gods and leave Advanced Gods off?

I'm not understanding why there isn't a single "gods" drop-down that is Simple or Advanced. Can someone clarify the interaction between these two different drop-downs?

It's exactly as it says, so you can disable the simple gods and play with only the advanced ones.

Basically you can pick any combination (simple only, advanced only, both, none).

D'oh. For some reason I was thinking "Advanced Gods" was just to include the Advanced Gods in the pool, ... or something.

Yeah, I don't know why I didn't just figure it out on my own. Maybe I shouldn't be playing Santorini at all... ;)

Thanks.

Basically you can pick simple only, advanced only, or both. I forget what happens if you set everything to off (it's not valid, but we correct it for you somehow).
So… it's not exactly as it says.

And does that mean there's no way to turn gods off completely?

It is exactly as it says. You have a pool of powers that you can customize :
- do you want to add basic god to the pool ? Yes/no
- do you want to add heroes to the pool ? Yes/no
- do you want to add advanced gods to the pool ? Yes/no/Only the ones with no hidden information

Every combination is perfectly valid (contrary to what quietmint said), so you can set all of them to "No" and the pool of powers will be empty, which means you will play a game without any power.

Ha I didn't even consider playing with none since the powers are literally the point of this game. I've edited my response, though I don't recommend playing without any powers

I have played a bunch a games with no power, it's really a good entry point to learn the game, especially with kids. The replayability is quite low though, corners are very powered in this version, so indeed I would recommend testing at least basic gods after couple no-power plays.
