Round 13 Card Order

Post by JohnnyCyclops »

I’ve added to a bug ticket regarding this.

In my first game on BGA at round 13 I was first shown the face down card from my board and THEN given the choice of a Tokyo or Kyoto card. This is the wrong way around. The game rule is:

“At the beginning of round 13, players should draw their choice of 1 card from either the Tokyo or Kyoto deck, as indicated by the icon, and then draw the 1 card remaining on their player board. (Players are not allowed to look at that card before deciding which deck to draw from.)”

In the printed rules the words “then draw” are in bold to make this clear.

I found one existing bug ticket, unresolved, so I’ve added my comment to that.

I’m curious if it was just me or do others see this mistake also in your games?

Just curious, can this ever have an effect on the game or your decision making?
At round 13, I always know what card type I want, the face down card is irrelevant.

If I need a Kyoto, I'm drawing a Kyoto:
If I can't see the face down card, I'm drawing Kyoto.
If I can see the face down card and it's Tokyo, I'm drawing Kyoto.
If I can see the face down card is Kyoto, I'm still drawing Kyoto to hope for a better card.

I can't think of a reason why the order would ever matter.

I’m just going by the rules. Especially as they bold “then draw”. I was curious why such a basic rule as written wasn’t applied by BGA. There is an existing bug ticket and I’ve added to it.

The final spot to play may be on a day which could go either way, travel/city-wise. So it could matter. Knowing the face down card could tell you which level of day bonus (1,2,3 matching icons) could be achieved.

I think there is some skewing by seeing that face down card first and then acting on that hidden information. Playing on BGA is then NOT how I play my physical copy.

Thank you for replying and confirming you also get to see the face down card first. So I know it’s not just me on my limited two plays here. The bug is putting me off playing more tbh.
