ELO relative to ranks in Arena

I'm on a small winning streak in one particular game, and the consequence is that I receive fewer stars toward my next Arena rank (I'm not Elite yet).

Once a person is Elite in a game, it makes total sense that winning against lower elo players would have a smaller impact on your Elite score. However, prior to Elite I don't think it makes any sense to have ELO impact going up or down.

At my current pace it would take 10 wins in a row (1 star at a time) to go from platinum to elite. A lower ranked person might go from platinum to elite in, say, 3 or 4 games. I don't think that should be reversed, but to me a person making it to gold->platinum->elite should perhaps be independent of elo.

Am I missing anything? Is there a reason why a high ranked person should take longer to climb the ranks prior to elite?

Elo does not have any effect in Arena. All that matters is your Arena rank and your opponent's.

On the other hand, elo is a measure of skill, not a "reward", so it only makes that every game not in friendly (i.e. training, trial) mode counts towards elo.

ELO does not determine how many stars (or whatever you want to call them) you earn. It is strictly based on what arena level you are and what arena level your opponent is.

This is explained in the FAQ:

When you win a game in Arena mode, you gain Arena points. You gain 3 Arena points when beating an opponent from the same league, 2 points when beating an opponent from league N-1, 1 point for beating an opponent from league N-2, and so on (and the same for higher leagues).

When you lose a game, you lose Arena points. However, you cannot go below 0 points.

(Note: If you play a 3+ game, the number of Arena points you get is divided by the number of opponents. So beating 5 opponents from the same league brings you 3 x 5 / 5 = 3 points).
