Copying Designs and giving credit

Hi,

I'm new here and wanted to ask: If I like a particular UI/UX design in a game and want to copy it (and the code base) into my project on BGA, what is the standard etiquette on giving credit and asking for permission?

I don't think we have an etiquette for this. It's a shame actually but I haven't seen any credits from one dev to another.
Ok, that's a lie, a lot of devs use Tisaac's framework but do not really give credit to him anywhere but at the Discord dev server

If you copy whole file there is probably author in copyright header, and usually you would leave it there and add yourself if you modify it.
If code is public you don't need to ask for permission, but technically code may be under some specific licenses and you would have to copy attributions files, buts most of BGA stuff under MIT or other permissive license so its ok (but read the license/copyright header just in case).
Getting infected by GNU license can be pretty bad.
