The trend in the board gaming hobby is moving away from traditional competitive sit down games to multi-session legacy and campaign setup style games. In addition to all the legacy versions of Risk, Panedmic, and Ticket to Ride, there is also a class of more role-playing campaign style games such as ISS Vanguard, The Isofarian Guard and Arydia.
Given that we can make "friends" on BGA and see when they are online it seems like a good fit. Completed games are stored in a database so it should be easy to restore the state of a board for future games.
There are many games of this style that I would like to try out, but I am not in a position to find an in-person play group. Many players of these games want to have a committed play group to sit down and play through them and will play solely with those players. I tried suggesting Arydia for a board game get together but the owner of the game didn't want to play with me because I don't visit his house enough to start a campaign.
Perhaps BGA could be a better option for players looking to try these games. With 24/7 availability it should be much easier to get campaigns going.
