Yesterday,a tournmament game [of Saint Petersburg] I was playing in got stopped just before the last turn through running out of time. All of the players were playing actively, they just weren't quite fast enough. So I'm thinking, why not continue games that are,say,70% complete outside of the tournament, instead of cancelling them ?
The main objection might be that players may not want to play extra games. But they'd only be playing a maximum 30% of a game, and the only players doing that would be the ones who progressed, who would be the ones who were fastest and had most time left.
What do people think of this suggestion ? I don't think it should apply in tournaments where people play multiple games simultaneously,if any of those still exist.
