Can I get an X token out of a bonus action if I already triggered a break ?

Post by danielvictor »

I played an animals action at 5-strength with the break count on 11 out of 15,and played a Sun Bear, giving me a bonus association action, and a Horsfield's Tarsier which gave me jumping 4,advancing the break count to 15,and giving me 4 money. I had no association workers left. The interface didn't give me the option of sacrificing my bonus association action for an 'X' token. Should it have done ? It just gave me an association action with a mandatory pass.[ I wouldn't have taken that option]

Nope, and this has nothing to do with the break. Gaining a specific action as a bonus never allows to take a xtoken instead because that's actually described as a different action in the rulebook. The only way to make that work is with détermination ability because it gives you an extra-action of your choice, so you have the right to pick an xtoken

Thanks.Does it specifically allow you to get rid of venom and constriction by taking an 'X' token instead of the action ?

Yes,but if taking an 'X' token is a different action from the action, then how does taking an 'X' token get rid of the venom or constriction token on the action ? Is it because the rules specifically say that it does ?

The glossary goes "If you perform an action whose Action card has a Venom token on it, return the Venom token to the supply;"
I agree it's not very clear, but "taking an X-token" is still performing an action and the corresponding action card is the one you move to slot 1.
So that might explain why it's removing the token. If you are not convinced, then know there were official clarification on bgg because I agree it's really not that obvious

No,that makes sense, but it runs counter to what you said earlier. If taking an 'X' token is still performing an action, then why can't you do it in place of a bonus action ?

Taking an X-token is an alternative action given by the cards.

each of your 5 action cards have the added ability of "take an X token"

An animal card giving you an "association action" is exactly that, an association action, NOT use your association card.

Ok,thanks. But just how exactly is 'exactly that' ? Could you instead use the marine worlds action card ability that allows you to substitute an alternative action for your association action ? How about the one that allows you to sacrifice your association action to get an additional association worker ?

Fair question. Haven't encountered that and not sure.
