What happens if you decline a game in a tournament?

Post by matthias7 »

I get a message asking if I want to Join or Decline a particular game after registering for a tournament.

What happens if I decline? Does it:
1. Forfeit the game
2. Withdraw from the tournament
3. Delay the start of the game
4. Start later with another player

Sometimes I don't want to play right away but I always click Join to avoid losing the game or getting kicked out of the tournament. Would like to know what would happen if I clicked Decline.

3. Delay the start of the game, usually only up to 1 hour for turn based. On my display in English it says Snooze, which makes me think of waking up and hitting the snooze button, delaying the event only a little bit.

I'm assuming this is a turn-based tournament, so nothing is forcing you to "play right away." Yes, your clock will run if it's your turn, but that happens in any turn-based game during playing hours for that game. Also, you may not even be the first player, so it won't matter whether you want to play right now anyway.

You can't decline a tournament game. The tournament will auto-start the game and join you automatically after around 15 minutes have passed. If you join the tournament game, it will start early if everyone else is online and joins.

You can quit the game after it starts, but that will count as a loss and give you a small karma penalty.

It's OK to be offline when a tournament game starts, if it's a turn-based tournament.

If it's a turn-based game, it'll just put you in the game automatically an hour or so later.

If it's a real-time game, you'll be ejected from the tournament and you won't play any game.

It was turn-based. The second game started 30 days after the first game. I just happened to be online when it started.
