Forest Shuffle: Dartmoor - It’s Brit-ish!

Forest Shuffle: Dartmoor is a stand-alone game within the Forest Shuffle family and introduces a brand new habitat and features new species with new abilities and bonuses to explore. Like in the original Forest Shuffle, in Forest Shuffle: Dartmoor players compete to build the most valuable environment by placing trees and shrubs, then attracting species to these locations to create an ecologically balanced habitat of flora and fauna.

What's new in Dartmoor is the introduction of TERRAIN cards that are played horizontally and serve as a home or feeding ground for different species than trees or shrubs. Due to the nature of the terrain, species can only be placed above and below a terrain card. Deer and other species stay clear the bogs or peat areas in the moorland. They need to drink, but will not feel safe at dwells or next to rivulets. So players need to be careful, where they place their species.
Like its predecessor, Forest Shuffle: Dartmoor comes with a unique back side: Each of the 180 cards of the deck can be placed face down, creating a bog, if the action allows it. The caves in Forest Shuffle: Dartmoor now will be drafted at the beginning of the game and offer asymmetrical starting conditions. Additionally, the number of tree symbols has been reduced from eight to six to enable bonuses more easily.

The game mechanism stays untouched: To start, each player has six cards in hand, with cards depicting either a particular type of tree, shrub or terrain or two moor dwellers (animal, plants), with these latter cards being divided in half, whether vertically or horizontally, with one dweller in each card half. On your turn, either draw two cards (either face down from the deck or face up from the clearing) and add them to your hand, or play a card from your hand by discarding other cards to pay the cost. In the end, the player with the highest score wins.

We would like to thank the publisher Lookout Games, who is offering the game for the whole BGA community for FREE until the Essen Spiel Fair (so you don't need to be Premium to play this game until the 20th of October 2025), and the game designer Kosch for their authorization to bring this game on our platform.
And let's salute the work done by firgon for adapting this title on BGA: it is pretty close to the original one, but it includes new interesting variety - witness it for yourself!

That's it for your Wednesday release!
What will come next week? Take a guess!
Until then, as always, take care and play fair...

I like Dartmoor a lot! The art is very pretty and cohesive since it is a specific area, and I like all the bonuses to take cards from the clearing.

I say this fairly regularly but it would be great to have the solo expansion for this game too. I believe it's called Exploration.

I like Dartmoor very much and possibly more than the original FS. The strategies seem more varied and the game more balanced even if in 1vs1 some are more valid than others. It is close enough FS, but the new interactions between the cards and different balance make it a very fun game to play. The only downside is that the cards look very small on smaller screens (even tablets) with my eye sight.

Not quite, Exploration is another expansion (including solo mode) for the original Forest Shuffle.

My partner and I have been playing this in Beta and Alpha for the past couple of months and absolutely love it. We're big fans of the original Forest Shuffle, but Dartmoor has really won me over. I love the introduction of the moors especially, though my only minor quibble is not being able to put any ponies or sheep on the moors

Super excited for everyone else to be able to play it now too

I think it’s a real shame that the tor cards are all the same and generic. The game could have felt much more like a ‘Dartmoor game’ if the art for tor cards featured and named the tors on Dartmoor.

Maybe that has changed since I tried a demo of it, niceto have it on the site though. It plays well, probably my preferred version.

Thats what I said, Its a different expansion for the core game and it includes solo, so it would be great to have that expansion included here.

Not quite, Exploration is another expansion (including solo mode) for the original Forest Shuffle.

I've been playing this already as tester or whatever it's called ( I forgot now). I like the idea of it. I don't really get the game yet.
