Auto advance

Post by SionedCati »

The last two games I've played there have suddenly been warnings flashed across the top at various points during the game, saying that one or other of us is "auto advancing"
Why is this happening?

This might be a bug. When my opponent has "auto-advance" selected, it seems to auto-advance me as well, which I dislike. When I bring up the game, 3 turns have happened - my opponent's advance, my own advance, and then whatever sequence my opponent did next.

@FrankJones Ah! I didn't even know that was a thing - good to know

It's not a bug. If your only option is to pass it will pass automatically for you. That is you do not have enough money or no tile fits on your board.

If you really think it's a bug you should show a game where this happened incorrectly.

Oh.

Well, the pop-up display is a bit odd then. It says something like, "Your opponent has auto-pass selected." Which made it sound like a setting we could toggle on or off.

I thought I could recall a situation in which I had no option other than to advance but I still needed to click "advance". But I might be confusing myself with games against Uwe.

For what it's worth, I dislike this feature.

It's a change/update. One used to have to press "advance" when one had no patch-buying options.

I find it terribly annoying, as did my opponent the other night. There's no way that I could see to turn it off when creating a game, only in the panel at the end of the game, which seems an odd place for it.

I find this new feature very annoying - the information about it says we can opt out, but I don't see a way to do that.
If anyone figures out how, I would love more infomation.

Why do you think this is annoying? This feature is saving time in fact. When it triggers, there is no possible move, so why would you, or your opponent, would wait until you pass?

I dislike it for the same reason I wouldn't want it to happen in other games. I would rather each player make a even if there is only one move. Maybe I want extra time to think, and I do not wish my move to be made automatically when my clock is already at maximum.

In chess, there are situations in which there is only one move, but the player still makes the move. It is not done automatically.

All in all, it's not a huge deal, but it should be an optional setting, not an automatic occurrence.
